30 Years of Gun Control Denial

Left-liberals often declare themselves to be on the side of fact and reason. And yet, they show almost no interest whatsoever in the actual facts when presented with them, especially when those facts contradict liberal reasoning.

 The Clueless Kluwe

I am, for my sins, a Minnesota Vikings fan. As one, I am more than a little familiar with the ex-Vikings punter named Chris Kluwe, who in addition to giving up four punt returns for a touchdown one season, has been an outspoken advocate of perverting the sacrament of marriage. One year after being cut by the team and replaced by a rookie punter at one-fourth the cost, Mr. Kluwe has penned an outraged screed in which he claimed that he had unfairly lost his job due to the actions of “two cowards and a bigot”.

Guis examined the effects of concealed weapons laws and various weapons bans on murder rates on a state-by-state basis for the period from 1980 to 2009. He discovered that harsher gun laws do not reduce gun violence, whereas concealed carry permits do tend to reduce the amount of gun crime taking place.

Facts? hrmm? if there were no guns, knives, swords, fists, and big bad men with a penis the crime rate would drop to almost zero. So you are incorrect. Oh and rocks, sticks, ropes, cars. Matter of fact if you want no crime if everyyone was dead their would be no crime reported at all. If you want to see crime watch Animal Planet, lot's of murder there.

Ironically (for lefties), gun sales are higher than ever. Deep down, you simply can't eliminate the sense of self-preservation from humans.

I mean, the LAPD is such a convincing argument for gun ownership.

Nobody seems eager to support Kluwe, mainly because the numbers don't lie: He's a bad punter. And punters aren't actual NFL players.

The problem with the gun control issue is that it's not a single variable issue. If one group thinks it will be ameliorated by action on a single variable, like gun availability, or strength of regulatory oversight, or law enforcement, it will inevitably fail. Japan has strong gun control and negligible gun violence. It's obvious that gun control works for Japan. Mexico has relatively strong gun control and totally off the scale gun violence. It's obvious that gun control doesn't work for Mexico. The uncomfortable thing for gun worshiping Americans is that given the status of law enforcement and the strength of regulating agencies, it's quite possible that stricter gun laws in America would bring down gun violence, simply due to conditions as they exist at this particular moment. On the other hand, America could perhaps do absolutely nothing with regard to gun legislation and change other variable to bring down gun violence. So it's a very complicated issue. It's kind of sobering to realize that America comes in only slightly below Mexico (but way below other Latin American countries) in gun violence, with 10.3 as opposed to 11.17 deaths per 100K.

You know what pisses me off, the animals like to kill the disabled game. They don't build handicap ramps they kill them and eat them. They also kill the new born without guns, and eat them.

We are civilized we only kill the unborn of our own. Then use the parts. Animals can learn a lot from men and civilized behavior. We are civilized. At least we use guns and don't break necks as a general rule we just blow them away or kill them before they are born.

Mankind can and will perfect that utopia where the lion lays down with the lamb. Won't they?

I was thinking about that 3D printing thing. Why stop with guns? Why not a rocket or grenade launcher?

And why stop with inanimate objects? They are already printing tissues in the lab. Why not print a bioweapon? I'm thinking Tyrant or Plant 42 like in Resident Evil. Obviously sentience is a problem with organisms, so you could print something and maybe graft it onto a plant.

You might be able to, if you damage the amygdala badly enough, such as through a surgical procedure called a amygdalectomy which tampers with the amygdaloid fibers in the brain. This procedure can be unilateral or bilateral. That could create hyper-r selection. Let us invent a new term and call it "r+ selection." Did Anonymous Conservative cover that topic? I know he wrote on Stockholm syndrome and Klüver–Bucy syndrome. He should write an article on that.

Speaking of gun-control in Texas. I was arrested twice for other offenses over 10 years ago. Both Times I was carrying. The second time they took my gun and unloaded it and gave it back to me when I made bail the next morning. The first time they did not find it in my coat pocket and it stayed over night. In in my possessions, and the next morning when I put my clothes on it was still there in my pocket in the lockup. Sometimes police ain't too bright and you would think if gun control was on the top of their list they would have found it. I walked out of lockup fully loaded the first time. I carry most of the time, yet never had a permit to do so. But back then there was no such thing as a permit. And won't ever get a permit for something I have every right to do.

Liberal reasoning borders on or reminds me of a tragi comedy. Yelling, screaming, crying, kicking, blaming, manipulating data, making up stuff and lying about facts are unexpectedly cute. The cuteness wears off very quickly though.

D and R's often do not live in any kind of reality regarding current events, laws and the modern arena of politics.

No, it's not possible. We have more than 30 years of data demonstrating that is not the case.

Anonymous Idle Spectator January 08, 2014 7:04 AM

I was thinking more on the amygdala. AnonCon tied extreme r-selection to homosexuality as a theory. And Vox recently posted on sex orientation conversation.

That might explain why sexuality is especially fluid during adolescence. The amygdala is still developing.

Now, female bisexuals are far, far, far, more common than male bisexuals. Males tend to be either/or. Why is that? Is it the amygdala? It's well known it differs in structure between males and females. Females are also more prone to anxiety, and in turn socialism and gun control.

It's also been shown: Recent research suggests that, for most women, high sex drive is associated with increased sexual attraction to both women and men. For men, however, high sex drive is associated with increased attraction to one sex or the other, but not to both, depending on sexual orientation. More recent research, however, associates high sex drive and increased attraction to both sexes only in women. Bisexual men's pattern has been more similar to heterosexuals with a stronger correlation with high sex drive for one sex, but with other-sex attraction as well."

So if I wanted to find a bi woman, I'd look for one with a high sex drive. And if I wanted to find a bi man, I'd look for one with a low sex drive. Why? As we know, bisexuals gravitate to gun control and liberalism.

apparently Thomas Jefferson never actually said these words:
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation then by deflation, the banks and the corporations that will grow up around them, will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered." - Thomas Jefferson

There is a solution to this and it isn't resisting gun control. It is a total shut down. Resist anything and everything. Resist it all. Everything. Don't accept one word of anything!

I have come to the conclusion that what you say here is not the case.

That is, they are not absolutely certain. They are probably absolutely certain that MPAI, and they know they will always have access to guns or bad men with guns. They simply want to get guns out of the hands of people who will oppose their agenda(s) so they hide their intent behind arguments that resonate with the idiot voting public.

Every time I read someone talking about how gun control could work I am reminded that over 1/3 of all guns used by gang members are local made. That is, in a garage machine shop.

So if you found a way to magically take all guns away one day by the next day the worst of the worst would be armed again.

Gun control can never work. The best we can hope for is criminal control, and that isn't even on the agenda right now.

i would agree that gun violence is highly unlikely to show a statiscally significant decline anywhere in the US until such time as guns and ammo are banned outright.

i somehow doubt that the inner-city gang banger demographic is going to be adept at reloading and firearms maintenance.

otoh, his carefully chosen sub-category of violence would ignore all of the NON-gun violence that would subsequently ensue. as we see in the UK.

the major salient is that overall violence ( murders, rapes, assaults, strong arm robberies, etc ) increases with an unarmed populace.

" Japan has strong gun control and negligible gun violence."

Japan came to guns late in their Islands history. Guns don't have the sentimental value of an American equalizer that won their freedom and tamed the western half of the country. Also, Japan has an extremely homogeneous population and virtually no vibrants.

American is now saddled with an underclass of illegal immigrants and a barely civilized slice of population that do not plan for the future but live in the moment. Action with no thought promotes barbaric behavior, drug use and unplanned pregnancies. Oh, and of course we have the political enablers that promote the ignorant vibrant lifestyle.

It certainly does seem that the violent in that country prefer knives. When I was living in Japan, some disturbed individual grabbed a kitchen knife off of a department store shelf and started stabbing shoppers, including a young child.

Practically the next day, all the department stores had replaced the actual knives with placards that one could take to the customer service desk to redeem for whatever knife one wished to purchase.

@ James Dixon,

The same analogy applies to rent controls...

The U.S. cities with the highest rents (NYC and SF) enacted rent control to tame the problem...resulting in the cities with the highest rents being: NYC and SF.

If gun control was able to work as designed, there would be some example of it actually doing what it claimed. Hence the lack of examples.

But don't think that the lack of results will stop the gun-grabbers from grabbing at our guns. Their track record proves otherwise.

close but I'd say its less advantage over other women in harem and more just day to day survival. women are more sensual and approach sex differently to men.

Maybe it's a bonding mechanism to give them an advantage over other women in the harem, or in a male deprived situation?

Possibly. I'm also asking WHY is the mechanism doing that (assuming it is correct, or how?). It makes sense bisexuality and homosexuality go hand and hand with nuclear family breakdowns.

It is interesting you bring that up though. There was this interesting case study with a bisexual woman. She would switch from straight to gay depending on the weeks, always in a cyclic pattern. I surmised it might have been due to hormone levels fluctuating.

I know right! If only we had laws against cocaine production, distribution, and transportation; then, not only would no one use drugs, gangs and cartels wouldn't kill each other over it either. We really ought to write the Congress and let them know we have a solution to illegal narcotics!

Reality says otherwise. At this very moment, just as federal courts are forcing Chicago to liberalize its gun laws, violent crime there is suddenly and mysteriously dropping. Every time gun laws are liberalized, leftists predict that blood will run in the streets. And then, with unerring consistency, they're wrong.

"...America comes in only slightly below Mexico (but way below other Latin American countries) in gun violence, with 10.3 as opposed to 11.17 deaths per 100K."

Look at crime statistics broken down by race of the perpetrator, then examine the racial composition of the US and Mexico. Much of the explanation is right there.
