The Galileo List

Won't the SFWA be proud to have made the list of organizations purging the politically correct? Their purge of me is number 75 on it, which is a nice synchronicity, since when my books were still being published by Hinterlands there, Amazon listed me as the #76 most popular science fiction writer.

The Richard Dawkins entry is funny.

Richard Dawkins: "Muslims are dumb."

Rabbits: "RACISS!"

Richard Dawkins: "Muslims aren't a race. Also, aliens"

And since that awful day i have not purchased even a Scalzi endorsed keychain. If i see a Jemima work? at the local B&N, i dog-ear it or leave my chewing gum within the leaves to save someone from purchasing and suffering through her drivel.

Banning has its consequences!!

Victim of the Inquisition. Too funny.

Spacebunny, hold him...he's too far away for us to reach.

Note that this list deliberately errs on the side of inclusion. Some of the names will be borderline cases and subject to nitpicking. It's not a Greatest Hits list, but a candidate list.

I shall attempt to find the wherewithal to soldier on, somehow.

Soldier on

Vox: "Their purge of me is number 75 on it, which is a nice synchronicity, since when my books were still being published by Hinterlands there, Amazon listed me as the #76 most popular science fiction writer."

This will no doubt change as more people are added to the list before you, since it is chronological.

More synchronicity, then less and less.

I think the goal for 2013 is supposed to be exhaustive with more of a greatest hits from the past.

Anonymous Krul January 10, 2014 4:43 PM

So... the SFWA purged Vox... and kept Rachel Swirsky.

How can anyone think that enforcing political correctness is a good idea?

Anonymous Alexander January 10, 2014 5:01 PM

I know this one!

Short time preferences and solipsism writ large: they can't imagine they could possibly be the 'out' group and even if the can, it's too far away in the future to worry about.

Anonymous Ulmer Miller January 10, 2014 5:01 PM

Any progress on your case against them? I remember you getting threats and losing professional opportunities for fear of attending conventions. That's the SFWA update I've been waiting for!

Anonymous ___ January 10, 2014 5:13 PM

The bizarre factor just hit 11 for me. This is like a reverse McCarthy's list and they're actually using the word "purge" which, when applied to people, is closely associated with genocide. Freudian slip?

Anonymous Porky January 10, 2014 5:20 PM

Glenn Beck, Reggie White.

Anonymous Aeoli Pera January 10, 2014 5:28 PM

Hmm, Chris Kluwe isn't on the list yet. I'd better inform the proprietor.

Neither is Dick Metcalf. Perhaps he doesn't count the ones that had it coming.

Those two minute hate things sound interesting. Maybe I should hit a few of those type sites, raise a ruckus, and see if anyone will direct some hate my way.

Wait one; isn't directed 'hate', a hate crime? Would be in the UK, I think. Hey, this might be fun! And, a nice legal settlement can't hurt. [can't hurt more than the directed 'hate' that is]

I really must go long on a few popcorn companies.

Anonymous DonReynolds January 10, 2014 6:08 PM

Clearly, it is all-out war now.
I was purged several years ago for being "a nativist, rightist, and conservative" from city government by the local Leftist radicals. The city manager decided it was not a fight he wanted to bother with. Human sacrifice is much easier and cheaper than principles.

Anonymous DonReynolds January 10, 2014 6:11 PM

Porky......"Glenn Beck, Reggie White."

And don't forget Lou Dobbs.

Anonymous Porky January 10, 2014 6:42 PM

@DonReynolds

Oh, and Juan Williams. The left eating itself again.

I'm glad there's a list to reveal the totalitarianism and thought control of political correctness, but the name is wrong. A brief study of Galileo and the controversy surrounding him reveals that he was indicted for bad science, not bad thought. It's a modern misconception - one we should correct.

Anonymous Titus Didius Tacitus January 10, 2014 8:07 PM

Erik: "Note that this list deliberately errs on the side of inclusion. Some of the names will be borderline cases and subject to nitpicking."

That's appropriate. The anti-white left gains from a great mass of exemplary scoldings and purges, each one of which might be nit-picked or doubted because of lack of information, but in the mass they add up to a pattern that keeps people in fear and silence.

You can't point to what is happening without pointing to a lot of cases where people can quibble. Maybe "redskins" really is an insensitive word. Maybe Jason Richwine really is a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews. And so on. It's the mass of cases like this that are being treated as just cause for mass shaming and career-wrecking that are doing the damage to freedom.

It's not a matter of a few exemplary case that one can present with confidence that even hard core antifas would agree that the punishment was excessive.

NR -> AmCon -> ... most of my feedly.

Like medicine, societal problems have a wide set of causes.

God will not judge us on our genes but on our wills, which will either be aligned or opposed to his - even if such often fails due to the world, flesh, or devil.

Yet we need to have the discussion. Genes, or the presumption used to be a reason to sterilize ("Three generations of idiots are enough"). Now it is the reverse ("You aren't hiring enough trisomy patients as brain surgeons").

I think John Derbyshire should be on that list.

Questions of the day:

Is it possible to watch a television show, open a magazine, go to a movie or an establishment news site without being exposed to the promotion of homosexuality?

Is it possible that the wealthy cultural elites may overlook a small insignificant periodical somewhere and forget to place within its pages a small article or advertisement endorsing homosexuality?

Can someone go through an entire day without being exposed to something promoting homosexuality? Is it possible?

Blogger LP 999/Eliza January 10, 2014 10:58 PM

Indeed, even Path Buchanan and Derb were purged if I recall correctly.

This reminds me of a song I used to hear from long ago, from Soul Asylum, shut down, 1992 or 1993. Rabbits are dysfunctional and their logic unlivable.

I've been vindicated
I've been loved and hated
I've been pulled aside and told that life was overrated
No, I don't believe it
I just can't conceive it
I can write all night but in the morning I can't read it

Oh no, don't know what's the matter
Stuck up on a ladder, scared of coming down
If I don't get what I want
And there ain't enough to go around
I become oblivious to the obvious
Just ridiculous

As I flip the pages
You're a time that ageless
In between us lies a calm before the storm that rages
Though we were related
Couldn't be separated
Tried to get ahead but only got decapitated

If I don't get what you want
And you don't get what I need
We become oblivious to the obvious
Just dysfunctional
Shut down

When I can't get keep from getting down
And I grow tired of hangin' 'round
I become invisible, unlivable
Just dysfunctional
Shut down

Godfrey: "Can someone go through an entire day without being exposed to something promoting homosexuality? Is it possible?"

If you are white, in one of the parts of the world most corrupted by the anti-fertility cultural attack, maybe not.

But it is possible to object to it without being purged, if you are Russian. Chairman of the State Duma International Affairs' Committee, Alexei Pushkov, objected because Moldova “was bound to organise regular gay [pride] parades as a condition for signing the Association Agreement with the EU.”

"Pushkov went on to describe the “accelerated de-Christianization” that is occurring “under the slogan of forming an indivisible world without borders, in particular, between sexes.”

“The objective”, he continued, “is to develop a qualitatively new society with no states, borders, moral norms or foundations of civilization.” In a word: Hell."

One can understand that the political correct find it infuriating that mere individuals like Vox Day continue to scorn a moral system that the aristocrats of right-thinking are successfully imposing on entire nations.

Anonymous AdognamedOp January 11, 2014 3:46 AM

The thing that bothers me most about these purgees is how quick most of them are to humilate themselves by offering up confessions and apologies to proclaim how tolerant they are.
As if the inquisators really give a damn.
It's so bad that even people falsely accused of PC blasphemy will beg for forgiveness.
Just recently some bulldike waitress accused an old couple of intolerance by refusing to tip her. She claimed they wrote their objections to her lifestyle on the bill.
Turns out she wrote it herself. But that didn;t stop the old couple from appearing on TV, with their faces blurred out, to profess their tolerance for that lifestyle.
The only funny part of that story was how a bunch of rabbit groups sent the dorito muncher money and she disappeared shortly after.
Kinda brings to mind the Christie traffic jambacle

Anonymous Titus Didius Tacitus January 11, 2014 4:10 AM

AdognamedOp: "The thing that bothers me most about these purgees is how quick most of them are to humilate themselves by offering up confessions and apologies to proclaim how tolerant they are."

And how quick they are to give evidence of their innocence by distancing themselves from or preemptively denouncing those who unlike their politically correct selves really are racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, Christianist etc..

This, they think, will raise their status. It doesn't. They think it will signal to leftist inquisitors that they too are of the "good opinions" consensus. That doesn't work. And by paralyzing any possible support (because who wants to support someone who is likely to take the opportunity to denounce you) they are throwing themselves on the mercy of the leftist court. That is beyond ineffective; it is funny.

With the exception of out-and-our rebels like Vox Day, it's a good idea never to say a kind word for anyone being scolded, defamed and purged by the inquisitors of the left. It's tempting to speak up for them, out of love of truth and justice, and simple pity. But when they do their ritual self-denunciations, self-abasements, statements of solidarity with leftist principles, and denigrations of anyone an inch to the right of them, you'll be disgusted and wish you had stayed quiet.
