Mailvox: SJWs ruin everything

A reader writes about how convergence ruled his church:
The first time I corresponded with you was last year, in which I asked advice about a church which brought in a San Francisco 49er for one of their sermons. The entire point of the sermon was to lecture the congregation on how Colin Kaepernick was doing God's work by kneeling for the anthem-- not scriptural in the least. They followed a pattern of social justice convergence: firing pastors who were more scholarly in biblical works, hiring a woman to preach once a month, bringing in a more "diverse" congregation intentionally to replace the faithful. My wife and I walked out on the church and never returned. The advice you gave was to take charge of the spiritual matters of my family, as a man should, and on my end, as I've turned to Him, God has bestowed us with blessings beyond anything I could have imagined this year.

However, the converged church is not faring so well. They used to be one of the largest churches in the San Francisco Bay Area, and by all accounts they are failing hard. Attendance has dropped drastically. They've lost most of the actual "doers" on their staff to other churches. They've replaced most paid staff with volunteers who aren't as competent. The church used to have its own coffee shop which it has now closed down because it no longer can sustain itself. In the space of one year since veering off into social justice, it has destroyed itself.

Social justice leads to complete ruin every time. Thought you might like an update.
I can't say I'm surprised. The death knell is the female preachers. I don't know why, exactly, but once a church reaches that point, you can rest assured that it isn't coming back.

My church (which was fine 3 years ago) died a slow painful death. It wasn't women, though. It was plain old Liberals. Our Rector and associate were anti-trump and most of the congregation voted for him.

They couldn't leave their politics out of the church.

This stupid churchian notion that you fill your pews by not challenging people's sin is idiotic on its face.

Anonymous CarpeOro December 04, 2017 3:41 PM

@3
From my slight experience with mega churches in the Detroit metro area, my observation is that they are like the mustard seeds scattered in thin soil. They'll grow, but the depth of faith I felt attending one was pretty shallow. I didn't feel the spirit there. A coworker attends one of their campuses and is content. I just don't get a sense that when the church is more plainly prosecuted that mega church members won't simply leave or will find the leadership AWOL.

Blogger Jake December 04, 2017 3:42 PM

@phillips Better marketing. Northland has always been one thing. It doesn't change to suit anything it has been a slickly presented checkbox for the Orlando area people.

As an aside, who gives a rats patootie about a coffee shop? Woman pastor isn't the beginning of the end, it's things like child care, paid staff, announcement girls (hey look at me), and just generally over involved women (volunteer councils, Sunday school teachers).

Basically every thing the modern church has. If they aren't even willing to say "surely you don't have time to help us with x because you have your own home to take care of" then they will damn sure shrink from truth.

Because at that point, returning to actual, scriptural Christianity is a matter of defrocking female clergy, which is a much bigger deal than not giving them positions they shouldn't have in the first place. A church too cowardly to do the easier thing certainly won't do the harder thing. Also, once they're in place, the women clergy get to vote on whether or not to ban themselves.

Yeah, I'm attending a traditional American church where we fill the pews to sing a few songs and hear a message. Not much interaction unless you go in the gym afterwards for coffee and a cookie. Isn't church supposed to be more than that?

“…not neglecting to meet together… but encouraging one another…” Hebrews 10:25

“When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the assembly may be built up… Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” 1 Corinthians 14: 26, 29-31

That's funny but not at all surprising to anyone who has dealt with the average female manager. It's hard to fully summarize for me but the petty, domineering, emotion driven leadership would do the trick for most people. It's kind of ironic but women often vote for women on principle yet they don't like each other when they actually have to deal with each other in reality.

I don't care if he is giving the most orthodox sermon since John Chrysostom — a sportsball player does not belong in the pulpit. It is its own form of degeneracy. The church is led by men ordained to do so.

Anonymous Ages December 04, 2017 5:19 PM

But to the greater point, I experienced the same thing some 15 years ago. The preaching seemed to be good, and suddenly it veered into SJW land (major focus on environmentalism, as that was the big topic at the time). I finally left when a political activist, who was not even known to be a Christian, was brought in to preach the sermon, which was full of humanism and SJW speak, and not a word about God.

The church started to die, and eventually the elders had the good sense to throw out the pastor who was leading all this. The church never recovered though, and it remains a shell of its former self.

Eve was completely deceived and while she knowingly violated the commandment (she quoted it to the serpent), she was completely under Adam's authority and covering and sin did not enter into the world with her violation.

Adam then listened to the voice of his wife.

My Cynical Little Voice opines that these converging churches tend to be sited on extremely valuable real estate, and the whole _point_ is to kill the church and skim the profits from the soon-to-be-sold assets.

======

My childhood church got converged through no fault of their own, when their Synod went the way of the SJW... long story short, a majority of the congregation voted to switch to a more-conservative synod, but a minority objected and took the matter to court. That's when they discovered that the church's charter (from ~1962) had been poorly devised, and due to a technicality that left the court no choice, the converged faction got possession of the real estate and the very nice buildings. So the old-timer group was now churchless and had to start over from scratch.

Someone donated land (unfortunately a good half hour's drive from the old neighborhood) and they're trying to rebuild, but their average age is 70+, and I doubt most will live to see it.

The death knell is the female preachers. I don't know why, exactly, but once a church reaches that point, you can rest assured that it isn't coming back.

Because by that point the leadership is already part female
and most def feminized. Lady preacher is the end-zone spike, the victory dance of the process, not the beginning.

Women are tribal in a sense, with the same ingroup preferences that other tribes have. They'll favor other women over men. Plus men will always act differently when one or more women are included in a team. Women are more socialistic and get wrapped up in "fairness", great for caring for toddlers, but they neglect justice in the process.

All the "muh Phoebe!" "muh Priscilla!" "muh Deborah" won't change the observable fact that women ruin everything in a church when they are in charge. Every. Time.

Yeah Nate, you know a good one. Doesn't change God's Word.

"I do not suffer a woman to teach" is not hard to understand.

@72 My Cynical Little Voice opines that these converging churches tend to be sited on extremely valuable real estate, and the whole _point_ is to kill the church and skim the profits from the soon-to-be-sold assets.

That's exactly what's going on in Catholic dioceses across the country.

They have to want the abuse at this point, if it even is a cuckservatives and not an outright leftist in disguise. Either way, it brings me great pleasure to see them wrecked.

My brother-in-law's family attends an Episcopalian church which is insanely SJW converged, female priests and all. I've been there on occasion for various family reasons, it's always horrible. Once I noticed they were having a movie night for a film celebrating Gene Robinson -- he's the priest who left his wife and kids so he could "be true" to himself by running off with his gay lover. And they made him a bishop for it. SMH.

But anyway unfortunately this is a historic church. George Washington used to attend it, Robert E. Lee grew up very near by and was confirmed there. FDR and Winston Churchill attended it when Churchill was in town. They've got many historic statues and plaques about all this and more. Yeah, they're all coming down now. Bad feels over the Robert E. Lee statue started it, but it spread to everybody including George Washington -- nobody was spared in the end.

So yeah, they've successfully abandoned just about everything -- their faith, their heritage, their nation. Following that female priest to the sunny uplands somewhere in her head, I guess.

To what end? Why are you wasting your very LIFE messing about trying to "uncrazy" the absolutely crazy? What is your end goal? Sure, it may seem FUN to poke the crazy. (Is it really? Or are you playing out your anger and disgust at them -- thinking THAT will somehow do something positive?)

Why not find a moderate forum, and try presenting info to woe THEM away from the crazy? The only reason to sit around and argue with the crazy, is to hope to reach the AUDIENCE! You'll never fix crazy -- but the folks who are not crazy, merely brainwashed or ill-/un-educated might be reachable.

Think of yourself as an ACTOR, acting a scene with the crazy, working to reach them audience and educate THEM! But, if you're hanging out IN the asylum, poking at and arguing WITH the crazies -- what the point?

If I were looking for a new church home I'd seek a congregation that emphasizes evangelism; personal participation in proclaiming the gospel of salvation from sin by Jesus Christ. Why? Because churches in decline find every other thing to occupy their time and justify their actions. Evangelism confronts evil in mens' hearts. Evangelism brings eternal life, its practitioners become spiritually astute yet grounded in the practical concerns of men. Bringing souls to salvation is the most worthwhile activity a man can do.

Yeah, that would strip Trump of the presidency, but it would probably institutionalize him and begin a battle over his assets that would likely carry on for years - if not decades. Perhaps in a decade or two this may become an issue, but now? Not even close, think Reagan post-1992, by '96 he was so far gone mentally he seldom recognized anyone (including Nancy) and the GOP couldn't even put together a short taped segment for the '96 convention.

Faceberg is deeply connected to Derp State and (((Rothschilds))). Similar story. As a member of the United Methodist Church I wasn't happy when I found out the UMC had donated many hundreds of thousands of dollars to P.P. Next up was a new pastor for our church who immediately confessed his admiration for the current pope. After that his sermons started slowly turning into SJW mini manifestos almost to the point where he was praising Hillary Clinton. I was the web master and my wife was the treasurer. We left church one day and decided to never go back. Called them up and told them to get a new web master and new treasurer. They were in shock and begged us to stay. Nope. Everyone left is ancient and can't even use an iPhone let alone maintain a website. Not to mention they had to find someone else to be treasurer. I've realized there are plenty of ways to contribute to the betterment of mankind and I refuse to have anything to do with organized religion now.

Interesting. Have you ever been to a church that offers classes or bible studies that provide tools for that?

Yes. Victory Outreach of downtown Los Angeles used to offer lessons in street evangelism to groups preparing to do overseas short term missions. It was word of mouth. Professors from the School of World Mission from Fuller Theological Seminary would connect the departing groups with the congregation.

The Salvation Army offers an annual seminar personal evangelism in Colorado Springs.

I too was fervent in evangelism as a teen but got rusty. Arriving much later at seminary I asked for directions, "To a church with a heart for the street." They sent me to V.O.
-------
I've made this offer before, now seems a good time to renew it. If any church in North America wants to reclaim the godly heritage of outdoor preaching and needs a hand getting started from zero to doing it, I am happy to come at no expense to you and walk alongside as you get started. This is a giant that can be killed.

Or come visit us in Roswell and see how easy it is.

As Christians, we have an obligation to spread the Gospel and share with others our belief in Jesus Christ.

Somehow, in the Modern times, this has become a preoccupation with making the Word of the Bible attractive to the most people...like a popularity contest, but that was never my understanding of the faith. We never change the message to make it more popular. The message remains the same and sin is understood in the same old way and virtues are still the same virtues.

If filling the pews with new butts was the purpose of the church, no doubt the new Christian message would include plenty of porn and drugs, which seem to be immensely popular with very many people.

Even if the church were reduced to a single congregation meeting in a single building, I would still expect them to be faithful to the message and loyal to the creed. There is no success in propagating a faith that demands nothing and gives nothing in return nor does it create a community of like believers, since the message would depend on the market, even within the same church.

Could be quite the business model: Join a church. Converge it. Drive away the congregation. Sell the property to a developer, launder and pocket the proceeds. Laugh at the rubes handing your their equity. Wash, rinse, repeat.

@105 DonReynolds

Considering the Apostle Paul addresses the problem in the New Testament, it really isn't new or recent. But we're not used to, in the West, the Church and the Social Scene be separated.

Though the core problem is all of that energy is keeping a physical Building going. That's quite different from building the "Church".

--Do you present it as a question, or an attack?--

Hmmm... I never thought of that. The Times where that question is relevant, it may have been a combination.

The first one was a male preacher in training using verses in Jeremiah about Jerusalem, the whore of Babylon, to preach on violence against women.

He maybe went on for 15 minutes before I said something and then all the women in the group joined. I think the question I asked was "if your wife cheated on you, is it your fault?" You can't use the verses on Jerusalem to say it's God's fault she was unfaithful.

The others may have been more questions, but I'll be mindful of this in the future.

That week at Gateway was bad. It shook up a lot of men who I know used to be engaged with Gateway teaching.

In dfw you will be happy to look at Watermark Community Church. I recommend looking up the pastors youtube channel Real Truth Real Quick to get a feel for how he sources teaching from scripture to relevant life topics. Then come and see what Jesus is doing. Im an under 30 married man with two sons and my wife and I hunted for a church in this area for 6 months before locking into Watermark. I found it when the Dallas Morning News blasted them for ending the membership of a msn reverting back to homosexuality, and then the lead pastor wrote a rebuttal showing the wisdom of church disipline the paper then published. When FWISD drove a transgender bathroom swap by fiat, most of the Christians i fought alongside came from Watermark Fort Worth. Its a place that men expect you to be men and a place that is serious about the mission of Jesus.

Plus I remember years ago when I first moved from home -- a local cable access show -- it featured a pastor in a long purple religious robe -- and he had a beard and sort of off colored reddish hair, he spoke with a slightly feminine voice. And the show was these small congregations at their local church. In one episode he spoke of how all the whites, Hispanics, Asians, blacks, gays, when they were walking along the beach in their community, everyone from each group they all kept their eyes down and didn't interact with anyone different from themselves. He then went on to say how they'd never turn anyone away from their church no matter who they are, even if they were gay. Never bothered to watch the show after that.
