Let's go Bills!

Blogger Dave December 03, 2017 11:07 AM

Of the early games, the only one worthy of any attention at all is Vikings at Falcons. Not only is it a terrific matchup of Matty-Ice and Julio Jones against the strong Vikings D, but the impact on playoff seeding could be yuge.

I have to back the Falcons here if only to give the Eagle a little breathing room in the chase for the home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Both the Rams and Saints have fallen two games back of the Eagles. The Saints are at the Falcons Thursday and the Vikings are at the Panthers next week so some critical matchups coming up wrt probable playoff teams.

https://slate.com/sports/2017/11/eric-reid-says-nfl-wants-to-use-money-from-military-programs-to-buy-off-players.html

So in an effort to win back their pissed off fan base the NFL will divert 89 million from breastfeeding cancer and military charities and divert them to social justice causes.

WTF!? Is this a joke? Are they trolling you VD? It's as if they are doing the very thing that will only make the situation worse for them. Has here been a clearer case of...SJWs Always double down?

'Breastfeeding cancer'

That's a new one. Should read 'breast cancer'

Actually, they're trying to buy off the serious SJWs and get them to stop protesting. It won't work, because double down.

Blogger BassmanCO December 03, 2017 11:23 AM

Screw the NFL. They could have taken care of this last year by bitch-slapping Kapernick into a grovelling puppy, but instead they let it go. They made their bed, they can lie in it.

Another week of Packers coaching fail, a dink and dunker at QB and the game plan reads if Rogers is still in

Blogger Unknown December 03, 2017 11:38 AM

Quite a fascinating article. Some money quotes...

"Reid, though, says that as far as he knows, Jenkins is the only protesting player who supports this deal with the league, which ESPN reported on Thursday will focus on “projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.” "

So there's no deal...Godel and the owners are negotiating with a portion of some splinter group of 'disaffected players.' How did these guys get to be Billionaires again?

Its like Obama 'negotiating' or should I say funding Iran...we won't sign any deal but I will just give you all this money anyway.

" “At no point did we ever communicate that an agreement with the NFL would end the protests, so for him to come to that point with the league, it was the last straw for me,” Reid said, per ESPN. "

Which inmates are running which asylum? What a clusterf**k!

Whether it was just a pithy phrase or in fact US policy, perhaps the NFL should have adopted the mantra of, 'We don't negotiate with terrorists' right from the start.

Is it the plan to fill all those empty seats with the black clown posse?

Season ticket renewals #'s will be fascinating to watch this off-season. Maybe they will offer SJ packages in 2018 for purchase with EBT cards....$100 for season tickets.

Blogger Dave December 03, 2017 11:39 AM

Yeah, screw the NFL. If we could only go back to the days where the only action that we heard about off the field was stuff like some dude suing a player named Cox for stealing his wife. Oh wait, http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article187023053.html

Blogger Cecil Henry December 03, 2017 11:45 AM

Not to belabour the obvious, but the NFL's actions this week show willful blindness and contempt for fans.

This is the EXACT opposite of what you do if you actually give a damn about fans and understand the situation.

Its amazing in its malevolence and contempt towards fans. Wow. I … just… can’t … believe it !!

Vox, you seem to enjoy watching or at least following sports. Many or most high IQ people I know don't. What's the appeal? I imagine you look at it from a war strategy or game theory angle?

If you've answered this elsewhere, please just let me know the link or the search terms to look up, thanks.

I look forward to the continuing burning down of the NFL

To the best of my knowledge, there is no negative correlation between IQ and enjoyment of sports.

Speaking of which, apparently they were trying to implode what's left of the Silverdome this morning. It went about as well as you would expect...

Blogger Luke December 03, 2017 12:18 PM

Yeah, it may be just my experience, or even how I filter things. If there's no correlation, then, it makes me even more curious to know what makes a man interested or uninterested in sportsball.

Blogger Johnny December 03, 2017 12:30 PM

>>the NFL will divert 89 million from breastfeeding cancer and military charities...

The only thing I can figure is that they expect the average fan is uninformed. Plus I assume the whole breast cancer thing was an effort to lure in female viewers. What, is that off now?

As for doubling down, I think they could reasonably hope for an agreemen if they had fewer black players and dealt with them as individuals. But with such a large number and any few taking a knee enough to cause problems, it seems wildly unlikely they can shut it down. In for a dime, in for a dollar. The players won concessions so why not go for more.

"Its amazing in its malevolence and contempt towards fans. Wow. I … just… can’t … believe it !!"

The NFL has their marching orders, and they have to do what they are doing, otherwise they will be Harveyed.

There is nothing to get, they are under someones thumb, who demands this behavior. Simple.

Anonymous Rambam December 03, 2017 12:41 PM

At least Goodell cut out the middle men hustlers (Sharpton & Rev Jesse) and held himself up. Reminds me of Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles as the sheriff holding a gun to his own head and threatening to shoot himself if demands aren't met.

My speculation is that people who are deeply involved with sports tend to like to watch others who are good at sports, and IQ is a non-factor compared to this.

Blogger KBuff December 03, 2017 12:47 PM

The kneeling came at a good time for me since the Broncos are so bad this year. Not watching has saved me a fair amount of irritation.

The SJW line seems to be that the ratings drop is actually fans who support BLM and are mad that the NFL hasn't done enough to support the kneelers.

That could happen - and soon: SI bestows the ''Muhammad Ali Legacy Award'' on Krapernig.
Did Krap sacrifice part of his *ahem* ''career'' over his not-stand? Not really, if anything, it appears he was trying to prolong it - unsuccessfully. Plus, Ali understood that he needed Whites as his fans, not antagonists.
Easy prediction of the week; It's the end of the road for Adrian Peterson and Eli Manning. Although with Manning, it's possible someone will offer him a contract in the off-season... Denver perhaps?

Blogger YIH December 03, 2017 2:29 PM

Massive props to University of Central Florida football! They went from being the Cleveland Browns of Div 1-A to a YUUGE turnaround this year.
As in undefeated (unlike all the much more famous teams) and first top 10 ranking in team history. Winning their conference championship with a score that resembles a college basketball game: 62-55.

Blogger Nate December 03, 2017 2:38 PM

For a third consecutive year the Big Ten will score no points in the College Football Playoff.

I'm surprised they managed to squeak in, usually a team that loses late in the season gets hammered in the rankings.

With the Big 10 now cut out of the playoffs for the first time ever, expect an expansion to eight teams next year with the big five league champions getting an automatic spot.

If Wisconsin had taken care of business, they wouldn't have.

Blogger TontoBubbaGoldstein December 03, 2017 3:16 PM

They made the right call.

Clemson would have annihilated Ohio State (or Wisconsin) en route to Atlanta.
Bama's going to be a much tougher row to hoe.
A Clemson/Georgia title game would be epic. Clemson and Athens are only an hour apart and Atlanta's right down the road from both. For three consecutive years in the early '80s the winner of the Clemson/Georgia game played for the National Championship.

I don't see the Bills making the playoffs. The Pats are making sure of that. No 'cat toast .gif' Superbowl this year.

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: --
"Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

Blogger Nate December 03, 2017 5:27 PM

"Clemson would have annihilated Ohio State (or Wisconsin) en route to Atlanta.
Bama's going to be a much tougher row to hoe."

and unlike these last few opponents... Bama will have time to heal up.

And Clemson will be facing a fully armed and operational Bama D.

Note: The Same D that destroyed FSU's whole season and probably sent Jimbo to TAMU.

Anonymous patrick kelly December 03, 2017 5:44 PM

Switched around today, no late CBS game, so I watched some Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee (10-11 year olds) quarterfinal playoff on ESPN.

Blogger Tatooine Sharpshooters' Club December 03, 2017 6:06 PM

NFL = Toxic Masculinity was supposed to happen, but not yet.

That equation has the glaring problem, from the Progressive Stack perspective, of the NFL being 68% black. Maybe attempting to turning them into a bunch of "MLKs in helmets" is considered a necessary prerequisite for their eventual noble martyring.

Of course, another issue is most SJWs, especially female ones, understand jack squat about the business of sports. Many actually believe the silly delusion that if there were no football, male sports fans would all be avid followers of women's field hockey, cuz sports is sports, right?

Blogger Retrenched December 03, 2017 6:10 PM

The Bills would have won if they had sung this before the game.

Blogger Dave December 03, 2017 6:15 PM

It was a given Bama would get in after Wisconsin's failure to launch last night. Either way this year's Playoffs should be spectacular. But yeah they need to add more teams next year.

Blogger TontoBubbaGoldstein December 03, 2017 6:20 PM

Note: The Same D that destroyed FSU's whole season and probably sent Jimbo to TAMU.

Dabo might have had something to do with Jimbo leaving FSU, too...but moving to the SEC West is sure jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

The $75 million should soothe the burns a bit, though.

Gronk had one the most egregious cheap shots I've ever seen today. He probably won't be suspended.

Anonymous HoosierHillbilly December 03, 2017 9:28 PM

The best thing that could have happened to the Big Ten was destroying itself like it did. Getting better slowly and surely, but ready for the big time? Not a chance.

Anonymous HoosierHillbilly December 03, 2017 9:31 PM
