Truth teller in a world of lies

James Delingpole observes that the God-Emperor is playing both the media and the European political elite like puppets in his ongoing defense of Western Civilization:
It might seem a stretch to argue that Trump’s recent trio of trolling retweets of Muslims-behaving-badly videos have much to do with this noble mission.

But cometh the man, cometh the hour. President Trump is no ordinary leader and he most certainly does not play by the conventional rules.

A key facet of his modus operandi is the way he manages to bypass a generally hostile media and speak directly to his constituency – essentially ordinary people who’ve had just about enough of politically correct nonsense – using social media.

Straight laced conservatives deplore this. They think it’s undignified. Even that it trivializes the presidential office and undermines Trump’s mission.

On the contrary, as Vox Day persuasively demonstrates in his new book SJWs Always Double Down, Trump wields Twitter like a cross between a surgeon’s scalpel and a theater commander’s Daisycutter bomb.

So, cut to the chase, what was Trump doing with these tweets?

First, let’s just establish what he was NOT doing:

Winning the hearts and minds of radical Muslims; making liberals love and respect him more; getting nice coverage in the Guardian and the New York Times; persuading Never Trumpers that they might have misjudged him; winning over Theresa May and the rest of the faux-Conservative political class.

No. Trump doesn’t give a damn for any of these people. (And who can blame him?)

Instead he was sending a message to the people he cares about: all those ordinary people out there, not just in the U.S. but in Europe and beyond, who are shocked, appalled, scared by the way their countries are slowly (or quite quickly in the case of some countries, Sweden, for example) surrendering to Islam; who feel betrayed by the pusillanimity of their political leaders and let down by the failure of most of their media to report on the rapes and the sexual grooming and the violence being committed disproportionately by Muslims, both immigrants and home-grown radicals; who feel unable to speak – except in embarrassed whispers – about their fears about being stabbed or machine-gunned or blown up or mown down by yet another jihadist simply for the crime of going about their daily, Western life; who bitterly resent being tarred as Islamophobic or xenophobic or uncaring when all they want is to be allowed to live their life in peace in a country whose traditions, laws and cultural values remain the ones they grew up with and which make their homeland worth living in.

These are the people Trump was reaching out to with those tweets.

As for the rest – all those politicians and media types and cry bully activist groups – they just fell into Trump’s trap.

Trump wanted them to react in the way they did. It was part of his strategy. If you don’t understand why – if you’re one of those “sophisticated” analysts who persists in persuading yourself that Trump is just an idiot, in the way the same people used to say about Ronald Reagan – then, again, I recommend you spend time reading Vox Day’s book.

But if you want the short version, ask yourself this: how do you think most ordinary people – the ones outside the politically correct politics/media bubble – responded when they saw the president’s tweets?

Did they go

a) “I heard some people on the BBC tell me that Britain First are far right and far right is, like, the worst thing ever. So by retweeting them Donald Trump was literally endorsing fascism!”

or

b) “Trump gets it. Why don’t the other politicians get it?”

I suspect it’s mainly the latter.
Mainly? Most certainly! For me, one of the most significant aspects of Trump's much-protested retweets is that he has clearly learned that playing go-along-to-get-along will be fatal for him. He's not trying to please Theresa May. He's not trying to please Jean-Claude Juncker. He's not trying to please any of the sex criminals in the media, either in the US or the UK.

Why should he? He is the champion of the people, the vox populi, and he is standing up for them against the modern-day, self-appointed Optimates. We can only hope that he will treat them in much the same way Sulla treated his political opponents.

One thing Scott Adams definitely gets right is the concept that different people see reality as different movies in their head. Talk to a leftist and they're convinced Trump is a total incompetent moron, a business failure, is rejected by the majority of people, and is likely to be removed from office any day now. To them Trump's tweets were further proof of this internal narrative.

Worth repeating. Somehow some people who seem otherwise intelligent just can't get it. Trump is getting away with breaking through the Overton Window that they have otherwise been able to enforce. The most fun part is that the other side can't seem to figure out how to deal with it. They should be smart enough to overcome the tendency to double down, but apparently are not.

Blogger dc.sunsets December 03, 2017 2:07 PM

@1 Wanderer, it's not just that people have different movies in their heads, it's that some people's movies hew closer to reality and others' are absurd, fun-house mirror distortions of increasingly bizarre nature.

Addiction, like schizophrenia, has a heritable component, because behavior, both individual and collective/herd, is heritable as well.

Leftists' movies in their heads are fundamentally estranged from reality because their goal-seeking is to force "what is" reality to conform with their "what ought to be" mental models.

They do not seek the truth of reality; they seek to force reality to conform to their fiction. And when resources seem unlimited, they get away with it (for a while.)

A man can sustain the lifestyle of a king if people are willing to lend him enough money for the duration. Leftists have indulged their addiction-level impulses to make us live like their absurd head-movies only because a major part of that movie was the belief that no matter how many IOU's were issued, they are good as gold.

That 50 year absurdity is past its sell-by date.

I keep telling people that Trump is not your "typical" politician. Once you can get past that simple fact, it gets easier to see that he's basically smoking out the swamp creatures. The best part about this is the absolute ease with which he's doing it. The true believers that want to see him gone don't want to even brush with that reality. It's both highly amusing AND pathetic at the same time.

Additionally, people need to understand that nice isn't how our enemies act, so why should we?

Finally watched WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP. I avoided this like a plague all these years, and for good reason it turns out.

The seeds of everything that went crazy with Liberalism can be glimpsed here. It took time for the cancer to spread, but once New England Puritanism lost God, it had to find other causes and needs in an idyllic world of privilege. The nuthouse in the movie is like so many elite colleges in the East Coast.
Victimhood as fetish for demented brats. These are people who do everything to escape from reality but pretend to save the world.
The movie’s view of feminism is ambiguous, but soulless eccentricity, esp of the mother, is supposed to be admirable, even redemptive.

If you want to understand the ways in which Donald Trump’s presidency is systematically corrupting the American mind, I have a book recommendation for you. It’s about Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

The book is Peter Pomerantsev’s “Nothing Is True and Everything Is Possible.” It was published in 2014, and it brilliantly tells the story of the (Soviet-born) British author’s sojourn as a producer for Russian TV. He whom the God-emperor would destroy...

Trump has never dealt directly with the swamp before, especially the masked denizens. The pattern seems to be to trust (perhaps not fully) first, but then deal with it mercilessly when things go wrong - whether through incompetence or malice. McCucky did get the tax bill through, but it goes though conference.

Government shutdown on the 8th, he's in Pennsacola on the 9th (I wonder if there will be just one Moore little thing).

"You wouldn't like me when I'm angry". To the swamp, not his supporters. The dynamic will get interesting if Mueller tries to indict Jared (over some petty BS stuff).

An interesting idea is to swap Moore for Sessions once elected, and I think Moore wouldn't merely drain the swamp, he'd incinerate it and salt it. I can dream.

I will have to start popping corn (note to self - find low-carb alt) so I can string it around my Christmas Tree, do Popcorn Balls, and have more than enough to snack on.

The demonic protective walls are cracked if not down as we are seeing the sludge from the cespool has gone from a trickle to a flow, but I think it will continue to a gush, then a torrent.

Blogger DonReynolds December 03, 2017 4:44 PM

Had the media even PRETENDED to be in the least bit objective (wow...there is that old word again), and reported the news without the usual Leftist spin, honestly and fairly, without the usual breathless partisanship....then the President would not need to take his messages directly to the public.

The only other practical alternative would be for the US Government to create their own media outlets....newspapers, radio, television, and cable channels.

But of course, in the USA the government does not speak directly to the people. It has always been dependent on the media to carry that message and seldom have they been at all faithful with that responsibility.

Biased media is not a new invention. It has been a crusty, festering sore on this country since the very beginning. Thomas Jefferson despised the press and his condemnations have become some of the most damning in US history. Up until fairly recently, newspapers were the flagship of the media and nearly all of them were incredibly partisan, and reliably so. It was not unusual for newspapers to declare their partisanship in the name of the paper....Democrat or Republican. All of which is not the development of the journalism profession but in spite of it. The media has always been FREE and in practice that has meant that the media is FREE to twist and distort news reporting. They do not feel the responsibility that they have long been assigned. The American people deserve the TRUTH and sometimes they get it.

However, as Scott Adams and Ivan Throne have pointed out in their own ways, his 'emotional intelligence' and social skills be they learned, instinctive, trained, or all three; are astoundingly strong and broad across the board.

So just as it is neither common nor rare but merely 'uncommon' for someone to have a lacuna in their intelligence such as having great verbal and even great mathematical but merely above average to average three-dimensional spatial relations; Trump may or may not have astounding mathematical skills to go with his emotional and verbal intelligence. Occidental Observer, in a post on Moneyball, stated (roughly) "The Media mediates...it stands between reality and us...and shapes what we think, what we can think about, what we cannot think about"

Trump blows that relationship up; He dis-intermediates.

If you can see it, that is what pisses off the NeverTrumpers, the Media, the Neocons, the feminists....

They have lost the power to mediate and by extension, the power to define, to warp reality into a self-serving narrative.

That is the story of Protestantism, and by extension America and Americans. We think for ourselves. We read source documents for ourselves. We build things ourselves. We order our civilization ourselves.
We work out our own salvation in fear and trembling ourselves.

Rather, it's more like a hypothetical scenario where a medieval lord refuses to arm his soldiers with gunpowder weapons because they're "cowardly" or "not honorable".

Prediction: the Deep State/the left is going to go after Trump in a big way, that they haven't done yet. It would likely start with his descendants, sort of Perot had his daughter targeted. If they're smart enough, they won't do violence to his children/grandchildren; even a couple of Princess Diana-style fatal car crashes would likely backfire, getting him even more POed at them, and electorally-noticeable sympathy next election. (Outright MURDER of any of them would SERIOUSLY add votes to his column next election.) Them actually trying to kill him? That would require both prior planning and desperation that I don't think are set up yet, especially if they want a scintilla of deniability. (If a registered Democrat political activist shoots at him and misses under a year before Nov. 2020, I guarantee more states than 2016.)

Anonymous Luke December 03, 2017 9:22 PM

If someone wants to screw over the Clintons, the way to do it is to have a court of Democrat judges order them to do restitution for their crimes, and to repay more money than they have, or likely will ever have. Combine that with barring them from running for office, making 10 minute speeches for 200 grand, getting millions of dollars for letting their names be on a crummy ghost-written book, etc. This would be better than sentencing them to jail IMO, as it 1) would be harder to appeal at least in part; 2) Hillary likes to claim martyr status when called to account, and she'd find that easier to claim for being sent to jail like Mandela than repaying crime victims; 3) being broke is the worst fear they have.

Just as an interesting aside, the Roman Catholic church may have hastened the adoption of gunpowder weapons by banning the use of the crossbow against fellow Christians. The crossbow was such a terrible weapon that the Pope forbade its use....except against non-Christians. This may have inadvertently encouraged the adoption of gunpowder weapons.

This is a joke right? How hard is it to read the outline of this tax plan. The vast majority of the cuts are for the very wealthy. The average middle income tax payer will get less than $90 more per month in this plan.

Also no more deductions for medical expenses when they amount to more than 10% of your income. Guess who uses that deduction. Primarily elderly people and parents of disabled children who average $55K per year.

And all this is done by cutting taxes that don't need to be cut at all and financing it through debt. What happens when the miracle of trickle down doesn't work and we have no increase in taxes paid through growth. Wanna know what happens: See Kansas.

Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. I can do math. And so can everyone else.

In my country, there is no capital gains tax on private residences.

And a single payer health system.

Other than that, the brackets in the thing look basically the same as here.

Your average middle income tax payer makes around $50K. $100/month ($1080/year) is around 3% of their take home income. But if you're not happy with that you can always send your $90 to me. I'll be glad to take it.

Then the deficit still goes up less than it did under Obama, when it almost doubled in 8 years.

Let's see. Trump has only thus far decimated the EPA and State Dept. Gutting them by 50% would be a good start. Then there's the two DoE's (Energy and Education), the TSA, the FBI, and the IRS (the latter two have obviously become so politically tainted they can't function at their current levels), all of which should be cut massively. Then bring home the majority of our overseas military forces. Does that sound like a good start?

Unless you file the long-form tax return, you will almost certainly come out well ahead under this plan, and something like 70% of American taxpayers use the short form.

Even if you have to file the long for (due to capital gains and such), you should come out ahead unless you itemize deductions. Those are what's going to get hit under the current plan.

It is, but I think Danby typo'ed or something. From http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-tax-plan-take-home-pay-2017-9

"Single filers would deduct $12,200 under the House's plan or $12,000 under the Senate's plan — slightly higher than the current combined $10,400 deduction, which includes the standard deduction and one personal exemption.

Joint filers would deduct $24,400 under the House's plan or $24,000 under the Senate's plan — up from the current $20,800, which includes the standard deduction and two personal exemptions."

So not that great a difference. $3200 or $3600 for a married couple. But the tax brackets are also improved.

There's only been once in my life we would have been ahead to itemize deductions. I think it would have saved us a hundred dollars or so, which wasn't worth the time required to assemble the paperwork.

> The only downside to that is it may trigger an actual, shooting, civil war.

What makes you think that isn't coming anyway? It's been apparent for most of my life that we're becoming two countries. We have two options, peaceful separation or violent separation. I don't really see peaceful being on the table, though I can hope otherwise.
